Scar of acne and other surgical scar is now can be lessened .

Scar treatment.

Each year in the developed world 100 million patients acquire scars, some of which cause considerable problems, as a result of 55 million elective operations and 25 million operations after trauma. There are an estimated four million burn scars, 70% of which occur in children. Global figures are unknown but doubtless much higher. People with abnormal skin scarring may face physical, aesthetic, psychological, and social consequences that may be associated with substantial emotional and financial costs.

Except from the wound and surgical scars, there are acne scars and burn scars (contractures) which complete the puzzle of skin scaring on humans. Scars are often considered trivial, but they can be disfiguring and aesthetically unpleasant and cause severe itching, tenderness, pain, sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, and disruption of daily activities. Other psychosocial sequelae include development of post-traumatic stress reactions , loss of self esteem and stigmatisation , leading to diminished quality of life.

The Dermaroller can be used on almost any kind of scar tissue, in order to improve the appearance of the multi-scared skin of a patient. The only kind of scar tissue that the DermarollerTM would not have a positive result is keloid scar tissue.

Acne scars

Many authors have described acne scars and their treatment, but till today there is no accepted standard classification system for the types of acne scaring. The various types of acne scars can be broadly categorized to 2 main groups .

Acne scars involving tissue loss
Acne scars involving tissue excess

A further classification system was proposed by Jacob et al. and an even more detailed one by Kadunc et al. Regardless of the classification system almost all types of acne scars can be successfully treated with Dermaroller. Icepick scars, Rolling scars, Boxcar scars, Papular scars, Dystrophic scars, Distensible retractile scars, Distensible undulated scars, Non-Distensible superficial, medium or deep scars, even Tunnel scars can be ameliorated or even healed by using the Dermaroller series with the appropriate regenerative agents.
The only type of acne scars that the Dermaroller would not have a positive result is keloid acne scar tissue.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Dermaroller should not be used on areas with active acne or other inflammatory skin disease. Acne should by all means be under control and then and only then should the DermarollerTM be used.

Wound and surgical scars

Every skin wound, except from superficial scratches, will result in scar formation. Surgically induced, iatrogenic wounds, closed under optimal conditions and healing under primary indention, will result in a thin, but inevitable scar. 2nd and 3rd degree burns treated under the best possible care or left alone to heal by secondary intention, will cause wide, dysmorphic and disfiguring scars on the skin of burn victims.

To all these patients, the Dermaroller will be the best offer modern medicine can give.

Typical scars that are treated with the Dermaroller:

Facelift scars
Hair transplantation scars (Strip procedure scars, scalp reduction or scalp extension scars)
Surgical abdominal scars (appendectomy, Cesarean section, abdominoplasty etc)
Thoracic scars
Breast plastic operation scars (Breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast reconstruction scars)
Post liposuction scars
Orthopedic scars (Knee, femoral, upper arm, vertebral scars etc.)
Burn contractures
